My name is Ryan Anderson, I am a senior at Illinois State University and will be graduating with a double major in accounting and finance. Originally, I was studying actuarial science and then switched to accounting and finance. The reason I chose to switch was because I wanted a major that involved using numbers and only requires one big examination, the CPA, instead of seven actuary tests.

I am an intern in the Audit Department and this is my first public accounting internship. I chose to focus on audit because I enjoy having the opportunity to meet new clients and build relationships. I learned about Mueller and their Internship opportunities at a career fair and attended their Job-Shadow Day, in which I attended to gain an understanding on what the life of a Mueller employee looks like. Specifically, I was able to take a tour of the Elgin office, meet employees, and see what auditors do on a daily basis and shortly after I was able to set up an interview for the Audit Internship.

My experience here at Mueller has exceeded my expectations as I am gaining a lot of real-world experience. After my first week of training, I was out in the field for my first audit, and each week I have been tasked with a new client and a new audit team. From this experience, I have learned a variety of valuable skills.

The culture at Mueller is a work hard, play hard mentality. When there is work to do we are expected to get the job done. At the same time Mueller is a company that knows how to have fun. There are a variety of social company events throughout the year including baseball games, holiday parties, and fundraisers.

All in all, I want to work for a company where I enjoy coming to work every day and can build relationships that will last a lifetime. I have found this here at Mueller.
