I’m trying to appreciate the little things in life.  As I noted previously, I was invited to attend the opening night festivities at the German US Summit held in Munich. There was a guest speaker and one of the items that I learned from the German Alliance speaker is that Americans are constantly looking forward to see what can be and Germans are looking to the past to see how they got to this point.  He is totally correct.  Since I’m a ‘German’ for 3 months, let’s take a step back and enjoy the budding flowers.

I think it is really important every once in a while to take a step back and appreciate the life that you have.  In society today it’s not something that can be done easily because we don’t have time and can’t make the time because there is always something that is important that needs to be done… now.

The last couple of days, for the first time in about a year and a half (so basically since I started working at Mueller) I’ve had a chance to reflect and appreciate.  I’ll be the first to say that I have a great life.  My parents were always home, my grandparents were always over, and my friends and cousins were always available for me.  Most people don’t have that and it has molded me into what I’ve become today.

It dawned on me that as of yesterday (Happy Birthday sis!) I have been out of college for as long as I was in college.  The memories remain of what will be the greatest four years of my life at The Winona State University.  Yet at the same time, it’s sad.  I think of the friends that were made, the friends that I haven’t seen since I left, and my college roommate that I’ll never get to talk to again.

Life keeps on moving.

On this Mother’s Day weekend, the first one that I won’t be able to celebrate with my mom in person, I hope that you all enjoy your weekend and celebrate with loved ones.  Try to take a second and appreciate everything (I think there is a depreciation accounting joke here that I’ll avoid). If that doesn’t fit your style, enjoy the hockey.

Happy Mothers’ Day, Mom, or as they say in German, Der Tag der glücklichen Mütter.
